Empress Taytu

Cleveland

Lisa Sanchez

There were huts constructed inside the building, which provided your own private shelter when you settled for dinner. The chairs were squat stools pulling your knees close to your chest. There are common tables as well, but I like to be adventurous upon entering a foreign land.

Nervous Dog Coffee Bar

Akron & Stow

Chad W. Lutz

My first experiences at the Nervous Dog take me back to my college days. While it’s hard for me to admit that in May it will be 5 years since I walked across the stage to accept my degree, it’s now here in Times New Roman for the entire world to read, enjoy. I used to see a doctor out in the West Akron area and would frequently drive past the coffee shop on my way to appointments. After awhile, I decided to stop in and grab a cup of coffee, if only for the experience.

Bam! Healthy Cuisine

North Canton

Chad W. Lutz

From the outside, one might think she’s walking into a gun store or an adult novelty shop. The thick, red-brick, windowless façade of the restaurant certainly leaves the imagination to wonder. But instead of finding .32 caliber trinkets or wadded, crusty relics of new and used pornography, patrons of BAM! Healthy Cuisine find something much, much tastier (and at the least, appetizing).

Mac's Pizza

Cincinnati

Chad W. Lutz

Founded in 2005 by McNeil “Mac” Ryan, Mac’s Pizza Pub offers a unique variation to the typical pizza prototype. Many competing places offer red marinara and white Alfredo sauce as a way to add variety to the traditional pizza menu, but Ryan takes a different approach and turns pizza on its crust.

Scribbles Cafe

Kent

Brendan Trenner

What I love most about Scribbles is that the table cloths are construction paper, which is replaced at the beginning of each week. Upon the tables sit glass vases and jars of colored pencils, crayons, and watercolor paints. Patrons who relax at the tables are casually prodded to “scribble”. Throughout the week, the tables become covered with artwork and poetry of a surprisingly strong caliber.

Would I make this a staple place to eat out? Probably not. But what the restaurant does offer is options for those with special dietary needs, which may, in effect, make Flavors a bit more than a casual place to eat. It may become your favorite.

Decorating aside, the sushi they serve is amazing! And it was also affordable! For two adults our bill came to about $25.00, and I didn't want to eat anything for the rest of the night for fear of ruining the taste in my mouth.
